On the road again…

That Willie Nelson tune comes to mind every time I re-pack to head out on the book tour.  The first week was fabulous…and best of all was greeting readers and running into so many wonderful authors.  The book launched with a fabulous evening at the scene of the crime - the great New York Public Library (podcast to be up and going very soon) - with an interview by my brilliant friend, Anna Quindlen (who says crime fiction can’t be literary?).  Then off to DC for two days - and time for my beloved pal, Jane Hitchcock (Who is Joan Stanton…one of Coop’s best friends), and came away with a galley of her June bestseller-to-be, MORTAL FRIENDS.  Three days in Denver - Tattered Cover, Murder by the Book (where CJ Box’s mother-in-law showed up - she didn’t have to twist my arm to get me to buy the latest), and the Denver City Library.  To Scottsdale, to the Poisoned Pen - the video cast of the great show that Barbara Peters put on for me will be linked to my site this week - it’s already up on hers).   And after the signing, a delicious dinner with Barbara and Rob….amazing booksellers and dearest friends…and the surprise of Dana Stabenow, one of my favorite authors - so I traveled on with the brand new WHISPER TO THE BLOOD.  Then to San Fran - M is for Mystery - and Ed put me on stage with Leighton Gage.  Find him!  Go hear him!  smart, funny, charming man and I am reading and enjoying his brand new BURIED STRANGERS…set in Brazil - good thriller and great sense of place.  Kelli Stanley was there, too - debut novelist - NOX DORMIENDA (A Long Night for Sleeping)….lots of fun and I am stacked up with great books to read and wonderful people to remember.  Off again tomorrow for points south.
